The word "icon" gets thrown around a lot in the automotive world, but if you had to select an iconic Mercedes-Benz, or even an iconic 1950s sports car, your short list
would have to include a 300SL "GULLWING" coupe.
The 300SL is part of a Latin American heritage. Our friend and sports car racer Manfredo Lippmann was a Mercedes dealer in Guatemala in the 1950s and knew he could
find buyers for the 300SL. The factory made only 300 Gullwings for export to areas outside the USA, and three of them were directed to Lippmann's Guatrmalan operation.
This is the first of those three.
In 2004 Auto Collector Mario Sueiras purchased it and invested two years and 2,000 labor hours into a nut and bolt restoration. This 300SL is a remarkable example of the breed.
The matching number original engine and drive train remain in place and the original belly pans are on the car as well.
This 300 SL has been driven fewer than 200 miles since its restoration, as it was the crown jewel of the Sueriras collection. It is also registered with the Gullwing Group.
